More About Us

Sports for Economic Empowerment

At Games Connect Africa, we believe that sport is more than recreation—it is a catalyst for economic transformation, hope, and self-reliance. Our Sports for Economic Empowerment Program uses sport as a platform to equip vulnerable young mothers with practical skills, mentorship, and opportunities that enable them to rebuild their lives, achieve financial independence, and actively contribute to their families and communities.

How the Program Works

The program integrates sports with livelihood and entrepreneurship initiatives through community-based activities that promote personal growth, confidence, and economic opportunity. Working alongside churches, community leaders, vocational training institutions, mentors, businesses, and development partners, we create supportive environments where vulnerable young mothers develop the skills and resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods.

Key program activities include:

  • Community sports events that promote inclusion and empowerment.
  • Vocational skills training for income generation.
  • Entrepreneurship and financial literacy education.
  • Business start-up support and seed capital opportunities.
  • Mentorship and positive role modelling.
  • Life skills development, including leadership and communication.
  • Psychosocial support and confidence-building sessions.
  • Faith-based discipleship and values formation.
  • Networking with employers, business mentors, and community partners.
  • Annual Sports Gala to mobilize resources for economic empowerment initiatives.

Annual Sports Gala

Theme: Play for Purpose – Empowering Young Mothers through Sport and Faith

The Annual Sports Gala brings together churches, communities, athletes, corporate partners, and well-wishers to raise resources that support vocational skills training, entrepreneurship, business start-up capital, mentorship, and life skills development for vulnerable young mothers. The event also creates awareness about the challenges young mothers face while inspiring collective action to restore hope, dignity, and opportunity.

Why This Program Matters

Many young mothers across Uganda face significant economic and social barriers that limit their ability to provide for themselves and their children. Poverty, unemployment, limited education, stigma, and lack of access to vocational opportunities often leave them trapped in cycles of dependency and vulnerability.

The Sports for Economic Empowerment Program addresses these challenges by using sport as a practical tool to:

  • Restore confidence, dignity, and hope.
  • Equip young mothers with employable vocational skills.
  • Promote entrepreneurship and financial independence.
  • Reduce dependency on external support.
  • Strengthen household incomes and family resilience.
  • Encourage social inclusion and community participation.
  • Build supportive networks through mentorship and peer engagement.
  • Empower women to become leaders and role models within their communities.

Our Impact

Through this program, young mothers gain far more than opportunities to participate in sport. They acquire practical skills, build sustainable livelihoods, strengthen their confidence, and create brighter futures for themselves and their children.

The program contributes to:

  • Increased household incomes.
  • Reduced dependency and economic vulnerability.
  • Improved social inclusion and community acceptance.
  • Stronger family resilience and child wellbeing.
  • Increased entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.
  • Enhanced confidence, leadership, and life skills.
  • Empowered women who become productive contributors to their communities.

Every young mother empowered economically strengthens her family, inspires her community, and creates lasting opportunities for the next generation.
